Infant massage provides an enjoyable opportunity to connect with your baby. Some believe it aids with relaxation, sleep, digestion, gas, constipation, colic, weight gain, and jaundice – this is unclear from the research but there are no risks in trying.
How to do it
*8 minute video demonstration of infant massage
Ensure room is warm enough for baby to be comfortable naked
Lay baby on a safe surface with a towel or blanket underneath to absorb excess oil/lotion
Optional to use a gentle oil or lotion without heavy fragrance
Use soft gentle touch that is firmer than a tickle, as baby moves into toddlerhood you can use a firmer touch
Move up the body from the extremity's inwards- feet legs, arms, belly (clockwise to aid digestion) chest, back.
You can talk or sing gently, or sit quietly and gaze in your baby’s eyes as you massage
If baby is fussing and not enjoying the massage pause and consider if they are hungry tired, cold, or bored
